These 7 Books Keep Selling at 7L in Paris – WWD

Karl Lagerfeld famously knew by heart the inventory at his 7L bookshop, continually refreshed with new titles about architecture, photography, design, lifestyle, fashion and gardens.

Now operated by Chanel, the landmark retailer on the Rue de Lille in Paris tracks new bestsellers, and also what it dubs “long sellers” that were first published years ago.

“These books become ‘reference books’ and sources of inspiration for 7L clients because they are considered as the best publications on their topics, thanks to their timelessness and/or rarity,” Laurence Delamare, director of 7L, explains. “Their exceptional quality lies in the fact that they go beyond theirs topics.”

Here, seven popular titles they are reading from 7L:

Long sellers:

  • “Christian Bérard -Excentrique Bébé” (Flammarion)
  • “Chess Design,” by Romain Morandi (Norma)
  • “Carlo Scarpa: Architecture and Design,” edited by Guido Beltramini and Italo Zannier (Rizzoli)
  • “The Anatomy of Colour,” by Patrick Baty (Thames & Hudson)

New bestsellers:

  • “Charles de Beistegui: Le Prince des Esthètes,” by Thomas Pennequin (Tallandier)
  • “Modernist Beirut,” by Guillaume Excoffier and Matthieu Salvaing (Norma)
  • “Analysis,” by Shellburne Thurber (Kehrer)
